Subsidized bread is sold normally at bakeries – Official

The Federation of Egyptian Industries’ bakeries division has stressed that all bakeries are distributing the share of subsidized bread for citizens at the new price regularly and normally.

Hassan Mohammady, head of the division, told MENA on Saturday that bread is sold at the new price as of June 1 without affecting the share of holders of ration cards.

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli has announced increasing the price of subsidized loaf of bread from 5 piasters to 20 piasters as of June 1.

During a press conference following the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, he said the cabinet reviewed the subsidized bread mechanism that was not upgraded over more than 30 years.

He noted that the cost of a loaf of bread is 1,25 pound and the state used to sell it at 5 piasters.
