The National Project for Development of the Egyptian Family is the cornerstone to address the overpopulation crisis out of a comprehensive vision including the health, social, family and economic dimensions. The project is targeting governorates of the first phase of the presidential initiative “Decent Life”, which covers 1,520 villages in a number of 20 Upper and Lower Egyptian governorates.
Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity Margaret Saroufim met yesterday with Amira Tawadros, Director of the Demographic Centre at the Ministry of Planning and Executive Director of the National Project for the Development of the Egyptian Family.
The meeting focused on work progress done to date in the Family Development Project.
The Family Development Project operates through several axes, including the economic empowerment via training women to manage small and micro projects. The project is aimed at training girls and young people on premarital medical examination and family planning.
The meeting also touched on the role of social pioneers that topped 15,000. Each pioneer makes 5 daily home visits to raise awareness among families, equivalent to 100 monthly visits, which resulted in an increase in the number of women who received family planning clinic services, and improved awareness against harmful practices.
