Egypt’s Minister of Education and Technical Education Reda Hegazy said the ministry is keen on promoting the use of modern technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in the educational domain. He said that his ministry is working hard to discover those talented in this score and help them achieve their goals.
He made the remarks on Wednesday during the inauguration of the first workshop on metaverse and AI, which is organised by Meta Company in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the American University in Cairo, and the Egypt University of Informatics from September 12 to 14.
A metaverse can be any 3D virtual space powered by technologies – including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), AI, the Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain – that allows people to interact with each other.
The minister highlighted the importance of such events on the role of metaverse in the educational process, noting that the AI is the locomotive of the future and one of the mainstays of the fourth industrial revolution.
He added that the digital transformation is one of the dimensions of the ministry’s strategic plan (2024-2029).
He noted that Egypt is one of the few countries that proceeded with the educational process due to Egypt’s powerful technological infrastructure.
Hegazy stressed that participation in this event represents one of the achievements made by the Egyptian state, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Minister Hegazy said that in recent years, AI has developed significantly thanks to Deep Learning technology. It is a method in artificial AI that teaches computers to process data in a way that is inspired by the human brain. Deep learning models can recognize complex patterns in pictures, text, sounds, and other data to produce accurate insights and predictions.
Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Soha Gendi took part in the event, stressing hi-tech methods help the ministry to contact with Egyptians abroad, especially in the disasters-rocked countries to get acquainted with their conditions and get information about them.
Gendi’s participation in the event came within the framework of “Metaverse and Artificial Intelligence Week ” .
Egypt’s First Metaverse and AI Week marks a milestone for stakeholders, including the government, private sector, industry, entrepreneurs, policy-makers, and academia to jointly design a roadmap for the uptake of emerging Metaverse technologies, with a focus on Egypt.
The event agenda features sessions and panel discussions aimed at increasing the understanding of the metaverse as the next iteration of the Internet and an area where Egypt can demonstrate early thought leadership and foster innovation.
