Egypt’s Minister of Finance Mohamed Maeet on Monday spoke of government efforts to support micro-, small- and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in border areas to contribute to the national economy.
The minister was addressing this year’s Egyptian Heritage and Handicraft Fair, which ends on March 16.
The fair is organised annually by the ministry’s Equal Opportunities Unit with to support Egyptian families at border towns and districts with the backing of small producers and marketing the products at affordable prices, a press release quoted Maeet as saying.
Deputy Finance Minister for Public Treasury Ihab Abu Eish said the fair reflects the state’s keenness to empower women through cottage industries and free outlets to display their products.
Head of the Equal Opportunities Unit Dalia Fouad said the fair is part of efforts to implement Egypt Vision 2030 and 65 per cent of the exhibitors are women.
The goods on display include cotton, handmade kilims, leather goods, dates, olive oil, hand accessories, copperware, tents, spices and bedspreads.
