CAIRO – Media advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Ahmed Ibrahim said the State has adopted the strategy of implementing vertical expansion projects to increase productivity of agricultural crops and products, improve agriculture method and develop varieties and hybrids that adapt to climate changes, with a view to increasing reliance on approved seeds.

In statements to MENA Sunday, the media advisor to the minister of agriculture said, the crop type map for some strategic crops was prepared and published, in addition to the implementation of the national greenhouse project (100 thousand acres of agricultural greenhouses), in line with with international specifications with high productivity and advanced technology.

Ibrahim added that many of the services provided by the Ministry of Agriculture directly or indirectly to farmers were expanded, as the ministry, for the first time, activated the contract farming system by announcing prices before planting at an appropriate time for eight strategic crops including: wheat, sugar cane, sugar beets, soybeans, white and yellow corn, Sunflowers and cotton.

As for Sinai’s development, the advisor to the ministry of agriculture said a collection of agricultural clusters were also implemented in North and South Sinai, numbering 18 agricultural development clusters in the Sinai Peninsula, 7 clusters in South Sinai, and 11 development clusters in North Sinai, in addition to the reclamation of approximately 11 thousand feddans.

He also pointing out that deliveries are currently being made to farmers in the North and South Sinai governorates, with 2,122 families from Sinai and other governorates directly benefiting from these gatherings, with 5 feddans.

To serve these communities and the surrounding areas, it was necessary to establish three centers for agricultural development services that provide all agricultural development services for agricultural development projects in the Sinai Peninsula, noted the official.

He explained that these centers aim to provide all agricultural development services to farmers from Sinai and those coming to it, as well as achieving the Ministry of Agriculture’s vision pertaining to the establishment of a new agricultural society and modern farm systems, with the highest productivity from land and water units, while preserving natural resources from deterioration and achieving sustainable development.
