Minister of Sport and Youth Dr. Ahsraf Sobhi discussed during a meeting here Sunday with Representative for Egypt Country Office at United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Frederica Meyer and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Representative in Egypt Jeremy Hopkins ways to boost cooperation within the upcoming stage.
The meeting took up the latest aspects of cooperation between the ministry and the UNFPA through the various societal ventures, along with the possibility of launching a national strategy for youth prepared by the ministry, in cooperation with the UNFPA and the Arab Institute for Leadership Development (AILD) of the Arab Academy For Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT).
The minister of sports said the Egyptian State – under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi – is keen on having all the society’s institutions contribute to development, in addition to further promoting cooperation with international institutions that encourage youth and incorporate youngsters in the various societal-targeted programs.
Sobhy voiced appreciation of the role of the UNFPA and the UNICEF in support of Egypt, lauding the fruitful cooperation with the two UN bodies throughout the year.
He also directed mulling the establishment of a special unit for clubs in youth centers and expansion in the number of clubs to reach 400 clubs, along with holding a series of meetings with officials at relevant UN-related programs to activate a national strategy for youth and children.
The minister also reviewed Youth Platform “Kayani” and the services it offers, inviting the UNFPA and the UNICEF to actively participate in the initiative, to avail all means for youth to develop skills such as creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.
For her part, the UNFPA official highlighted the importance of the UNFPA partnership with the ministry, citing tangible progress at the ministry through empowering youth. She also lauded the Egyptian government’s efforts in this regard.
Meantime, the UNICEF representative invited Sobhy to attend a youth summit, set for Amman, Jordan, in May. He also hailed the minister’s efforts toward realizing optimal benefit for Egyptian youth and children through Egypt’s startegic partnership with the UNICEF.
