CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy asserted African youth have big aspirations in the years to come.

“Youth are the backbone of development in the African continent and a key topic on the 2063 African Union agenda,” he said during a meeting with the AU’s Special Envoy on Youth Chido Cleopatra Mpemba on Wednesday.

The AU has adopted an ambitious agenda, which calls for empowering youth to contribute to developing Africa, added Sobhy.

Sobhy added the ministry is in constant contact with the AU and is promoting its co-operation with it to carry out several youth programmes.

The minister pointed out to the African affairs committee, that has been recently launched in the ministry to boost African co-operation in the fields of youth and sports.

The ministry is adopting a package of youth and sports programmes as part of efforts aimed at supporting African youth, that are intended to train and qualify African youth on all fronts, according to him.

In her turn, Mpemba said this is her first visit to Egypt, greeting President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on the success of the World Youth Forum, a most important platform for youth worldwide and in Africa.

The AU envoy is visiting Egypt to attend the WYF in Sharm el-Sheikh.
