More than LE39 billion has been invested in sports, while the contribution by sports is diverse.
This statement by Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi came in his address to a discussion panel, ‘The Economic Role of Sports Investment’ at the 9th Akhbar Al-Youm Economic Conference, organised under the auspices of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli.
Contracting players and coaches, sports media press services, sponsorship rights, the manufacture and marketing of sports equipment, the establishment of health clubs and fitness centres — sports contribte to the economy through these areas, the minister said.
The minister also reviewed the economics of Egyptian sports, sports infrastructure development, and sponsorship programmes.
The ministry is promoting sports so that the public can take up sporting activities as part of their lifestyle.
The ministry also seeks to improve government performance by providing youth and sports services, promoting youth and sports facilities, and deepening the relationship with civil society institutions and the private sector, Sobhi said.
