Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity is taking part in the activities of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh with a pavilion in the exhibition area of the Green Zone.
The pavilion includes a special section for showcasing the products of the Diyarna exhibition for handicrafts, and another section for various programmes of the ministry, including Awareness programme for community development, Forsa programme for economic empowerment, the Fund for Supporting Rural and Environmental Industries, and the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse (FCTAA).
Nevine el-Qabbag said her ministry is keen to acquaint conference participants with the Egyptian heritage through the products of Diarna handicrafts. The move contributes to the dissemination of culture about Ancient Egypt, its authentic identity and heritage, the minister said, adding that these products are environmentally friendly.
The minister referred to the ‘Waai’ Awareness Programme for Community Development, which covers child marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM), abandonment, health and education issues, rights of the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), and economic empowerment of the poorest marginalised families to transfer them from protection to production.
The ministry has adopted an integrated approach to social protection, focusing on the integration between economic, social and cultural empowerment, through integrated economic, health and educational programmes targeting the underprivileged families. The ministry also offers protection programmes to persons with special needs, women breadwinners, the homeless and the elderly.
The Egyptian Red Crescent and Nasser Social Bank have launched a number of green initiatives to be shown during the summit activities, including providing environmentally friendly means of transport for the participating delegations.
Sterilisation kits, disinfectants and environmentally friendly water bottles will be distributed during the conference. Booths for charging mobile devices will be available. The booths run on solar energy.
