Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsi attended on Tuesday the signing of a co-operation protocol between the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development to support social solidarity units at Egyptian universities.

Morsi expressed her gratitude to the Sawiris Foundation for its ongoing partnership with the ministry, highlighting the importance of the social solidarity units project in providing essential support to university students.

She emphasised that universities today play a broader role beyond academics, as they now focus on equipping students with practical and professional skills to integrate into the labor market.

Mohamed El-Aqabi, Assistant Minister of Social Solidarity and General Supervisor of Social Solidarity Units at Egyptian Universities, explained that the protocol aims to establish clear frameworks for co-operation. The initiative will focus on empowering students economically and implementing development programs agreed upon by both parties.

As part of the agreement, 2,000 final-year university students will receive professional training through an accredited training company to meet high-quality standards. Additionally, an integrated marketing plan will be developed to promote the project’s objectives and activities.

Laila Hosni, Executive Director of the Sawiris Foundation, affirmed that this collaboration reflects a shared commitment to empowering young Egyptians and expanding their opportunities.

She noted that the initiative is part of a larger effort to establish social solidarity units in universities, reinforcing the foundation’s dedication to sustainable development based on scientific principles.
