CAIRO – Egypt’s Social Solidarity Minister Nevine el-Qabbag reviewed a report on the activities offered to the disabled at universities.
The report showed that around 12,100 students with disabilities have so far benefited from the services provided by the Social Solidarity Ministry’s units at universities.
The report demonstrated that the units have paid tuition fees for more than 3,000 university students with disabilities.
They have also set up 17 recreational and sporting camps, and organized training courses and awareness-raising seminars on disability with nearly 5,600 students in attendance.
The report noted that the units trained disabled students on handicrafts such as decoupage, home accessory making, the Khayamiya (the art of tent making), crochet and other related crafts.
The report also stated that the units provided some 1,700 prosthetic devices and aids for students with disabilities.
About 2,400 disabled students benefited from training courses offered by the Social Solidarity Ministry’s units, which focused on how to provide first aid, the principles of sign language, financial inclusion, in addition to training for employment and integration into the labor market, the report showed.
