Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy Saturday instructed judicial enforcement officers of her ministry to investigate allegations circulated on social media platform Facebook regarding the harassment of a paralyzed woman by an employee at an unlicensed elderly care home in Heliopolis, Cairo governorate.
Rapid intervention team members and judicial enforcement officers of the Social Solidarity visited the care home to verify the claims of the harassment incident that have been confirmed, indicating that a woman was harassed by one of the supervisors tasked with taking care of elderly residents.
The minister directed evacuation and closure of the care home, while the elderly residents were relocated to another licensed care home to ensure that they receive proper care.
Legal measures were taken against the home’s management and the accused supervisor.
The case has been referred to the public prosecution to investigate charges of endangering elderly people and failing to provide the necessary care, health, rehabilitation and social services for them.
The charges also include establishing and operating an elderly care home without a license from the entitled administrative authority, as stipulated in the provisions of the elderly rights care law no. 19 of 2024.
