Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhi, participated virtually yesterday in the personal interviews for candidates applying to the fifth edition of the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership, due to start its activities next month.
The fellowship is organised by the Youth Innovation Centre for Development (YICD) in El-Gezira, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and the United Nations.
Held under the theme “Egypt and the United Nations: 80 Years of Representing Global South Issues,” the fellowship seeks to select outstanding young leaders from around the world through rigorous and transparent criteria. These standards reflect a strong commitment to fairness and align with Egypt’s Vision 2030, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and both regional and global development agendas. The event will bring together 150 young leaders from diverse executive fields and influential youth from around the world.
Minister Sobhi emphasised the critical importance of youth political empowerment, describing the fellowship as one of Egypt’s flagship initiatives in support of international development. He noted its pivotal role in equipping emerging leaders with the skills, training, and support necessary to assume executive and leadership positions.
The fifth edition of the fellowship aims to highlight Egypt’s extensive experience in building and institutionalising national institutions, fostering youth dialogue on the international stage, particularly within the United Nations, and promoting the active roles of women and youth in peace-building, security, and volunteerism.
Additionally, the fellowship focuses on key issues affecting youth, supports South-South co-operation, and raises awareness of the UN’s influence on Global South challenges. It also seeks to highlight the Global South’s contribution to advancing the priorities of developing nations and promoting international justice.
