PARIS – Egyptian Ambassador in Paris Alaa Youssef said French President Emmanuel Macron has been keen to invite his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El Sisi to the One Ocean Summit that is held on Friday in France’s northwestern city of Brest; in light of distinguished relations between the two countries as well as between their leaders.
In statements to MENA, Youssef highlighted close coordination between Egypt and France at all levels on various international issues, especially those of global importance such as climate change and environment protection.
The ambassador pointed out to the importance of Egypt’s participation in the One Ocean Summit, which discusses protecting ocean ecosystems, promoting sustainable fishing, combating marine pollution, providing solutions to climate change, and developing an international framework for ocean governance.
This also comes in line with Egypt’s hosting of the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh late this year, he added.
Meanwhile, the ambassador said Egypt-France relations are strategic in all fields, adding that the two countries have convergence of views on issues of common interest.
He also talked about the importance attached by France to Egypt given its weight in the Middle East and Africa.
