Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has witnessed the inauguration of Upper Egypt Railway Station in Bashtil in Giza governorate.
Bashtil Train Station is planned to serve citizens moving to and from Upper Egyptian governorates as the goal of its establishment is to alleviate congestion at the Ramses Train Station.
The opening ceremony began with reciting some verses of the Holy Quran.
A documentary titled “Gateway to Civilization,” was displayed, highlighting the key efforts of the Ministry of Transportation, specifically focusing on the Upper Egypt Train Station.
The documentary focused on the transportation system as a fundamental pillar for achieving the developmental goals of Egypt Vision 2030. It showcased the implementation of hundreds of projects in the fields of roads, transport, and communications, with the Egyptian state allocating EGP 2 trillion for developing an integrated system, including a national project to build 7,000 kilometers of roads, and a 2,000-kilometer network of high-speed electric trains.
The Upper Egypt Train Station is built on 239,000 square meters, four times the size of the current Ramses Station.
It is strategically located between Ramses and Giza railway stations, forming a junction for Egypt’s main railway lines (Aswan, Alexandria, Imbaba, Manashy, and Qabbari).
Its design draws inspiration from Pharaonic civilization.
The Upper Egypt Train Station includes 11 platforms, including six to serve Upper Egypt commuters, four for the Manashy line, and one for freight trains.
Its lines are connected to a massive maintenance workshop covering 18,000 square meters, and a multi-story parking on 8,000 square meters that can accommodate 1,100 cars.
The station’s basement floor is used as a parking with a capacity of 250 cars, along with car and pedestrian tunnels to the nearby streets and axes,
It also features commercial shops, as well as a shopping mall covering 60,000 square meters, housing 200 stores and 30 kiosks
The station is fully air-conditioned and includes 35 elevators, one of which is designed for people with disabilities, 14 escalators, 28 ticket windows, 86 electronic ticket gates, and 10 electronic ticket booking machines.
It is equipped with 1,200 surveillance cameras and 14 security gates with X-ray technology for screening people and luggage.
Additionally, the station offers Wi-Fi service to all travelers.
