Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Thursday witnessed the opening of a number of development projects in the Upper Egyptian Governorate of Sohag.

The opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, Housing Minister Assem el-Gazzar and a number of ministers, as well as senior State officials.

The ceremony started with recitation of verses of the Holy Quran.

A documentary on New Sohag City was screened at the ceremony that spotlighted the customs and traditions of Sohag citizens and the projects executed in the governorate within the presidential initiative “Decent Life”.

The documentary highlighted the projects aimed at developing 181 villages and seven towns, notably Om Doma village, which saw the establishment of an integrated service complex, hospitals and schools, in addition to supplying natural gas to houses.

It showed the project to upgrade Sohag University Hospital at a cost of LE1.1 billion.

The documentary also featured the project to develop New Sohag City University at a value of LE3 billion and the construction of 290 road projects and five new power stations, as well as building 11 sanitation projects to serve more than 170,000 citizens.

After the documentary, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli delivered a speech, during which he said New Sohag City is one of the “3G twin cities” that the government focused on while implementing a real development process.

Afterwards, President Sisi witnessed via video-conference the inauguration of development projects in the Upper Egyptian governorate, as he opened Tama axis project on the Nile, which was carried out by the Transport Ministry.

Some students of Sohag University briefed the president on their outstanding scientific projects that were conducted as part of Egypt Vision 2030.

The president said some development projects in Upper Egypt were executed outside the framework of “Decent Life” initiative at a cost of LE7 trillion.
