Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi witnessed on Wednesday the inauguration ceremony of the plants complex of the Egyptian Black Sand Company in Burullus city in Kafr el Sheikh governorate.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli along with a host of ministers and senior State officials.
The ceremony started with a recitation of verses of the Holy Quran.
The Black Sand plant in Kafr el Sheikh is the first of its kind in the world, with the most advanced mining equipment, said Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.
The plant will be part of mega national projects which aim to optimise the use of Egypt’s natural resources and attain added value of minerals extracted from black sand, added the spokesman.
The extracted minerals are used in the micro industries, a matter which pave the way to support national economy and attain overall development.
The project to extract minerals from black sand is one of the new promising mining projects, said Director General of the National Service Projects Authority Walid Hussein on Wednesday.
During the inauguration of the plants complex of the Egyptian Black Sand Company in Burullus city in Kafr el Sheikh governorate, in the presence of President Sisi, Hussein pointed out to the development process which is currently taking place in Egypt.
He, meanwhile, said he is proud that today’s inauguration coincides with the celebrations marking the October War victory.
This project is one of the projects which are affiliated with the National Service Projects Authority, he said, adding that this project will undoubtedly contribute to attaining economic growth rates.
Egypt owns large reserves of minerals-rich black sand, he went on to say.
Plans are underway to extract about 76 million tons of minerals, he added, pointing out to the feasibility studies conducted by the Nuclear Materials Authority in this respect.
A documentary was screened, themed “Sand of Gold” during the inauguration of the black sand plants complex, which was opened by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in Kafr el Sheikh.
The documentary displayed President Sisi’s directives to implement Egypt’s 2030 Sustainable Strategy, which calls for making use of the country’s natural resources, including black sand.
According to the documentary, minerals extracted from black sand are very important in several industries.
The document noted that the project contributed to providing more than 5,000 job opportunities, pointing out to Egypt’s non-stop bids to strengthen and localise more industries as per state-of-the-art technologies.
In turn, Board Chairman of the Egyptian Black Sand Company (EBSC) Magdy el Taweel affirmed the project is a most important venture with high economic benefits and aims to attract more investments.
The project aims to concentrate and separate economic minerals extracted from black sand in co-operation with foreign expertise and the Nuclear Materials Authority to transfer and strengthen the modern technologies in this respect, he added.
The project will produce several important economic minerals and set up new industrial complexes in order to achieve economic revenues and provide foreign currencies through meeting needs of local markets, he added.
For his part, Chairman of the Nuclear Materials Authority Hamed Mira said the black sand project is an ideal example to scale up the role of scientific researches in the country and to establish industrial entities as per President Sisi’s directives in this regard.
Mira added revenues of surplus value projects are estimated at approximately six billion dollars in the Burullus project alone.
President Sisi had earlier ordered to strengthen and localise IT industries in general nationwide, according to him.
