President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Monday called on the National Elections Authority (NEA) to thoroughly examine all reported incidents and appeals related to voting irregularities in constituencies where individual candidates competed, underscoring the need to protect the integrity of the electoral process and ensure the true will of Egyptians is reflected.
In a statement, President Sisi said the incidents brought to his attention fall “under the exclusive jurisdiction of the National Elections Authority, which is fully independent in its work according to the law.” He urged the NEA to conduct a “complete and meticulous review” of all complaints and to issue decisions that “are pleasing to God Almighty and honestly reveal the real choices of voters.”
The President stressed the importance of maximum transparency, calling on the Authority to verify that every candidate’s representative receives a copy of the vote-count record from each subcommittee. This, he said, is essential to ensure that members of the House of Representatives “genuinely represent the Egyptian people under the parliamentary dome.” President Sisi also encouraged the NEA to take firm action if the true voter intent cannot be decisively established. “The Authority must not hesitate to take the correct decision,” he said, whether that means fully annulling the current electoral phase or partially repeating voting in one or more constituencies, with reruns to be held at a later date if needed.
