president Abdel Fattah El Sisi has called for encouraging reliance on locally manufactured products in order to bridge the gap between exports and imports and achieve self-sufficiency in local products.
The president’s remarks came during his meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Minister of Trade and Industry Neveen Gamea sunday, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
During the meeting, the president also urged the drawing up of a comprehensive survey of products and commodities that could be manufactured locally, including through the promotion of industrial investments and partnering with the private sector that enjoys marked expertise.
During the meeting, Minister Gamea reviewed the indicators of Egyptian imports from the beginning of the current year 2021 until now, as well as the executive steps taken by the ministry as part of the import substitution programme to deepen local industrialisation and encourage reliance on national industry.
This comes in co-operation and coordination with all government agencies concerned in various industrial sectors, including engineering industries, auto components, domestic appliances, chemical industries, plastic products, spinning, textile and clothing industries.
