President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reaffirmed on Sunday that safeguarding Egypt’s stability and strengthening its institutions remain a national priority, emphasising that the country’s security institutions continue to play a central role in preserving the safety of citizens and the stability of the state.

The president’s remarks came during his participation in the Iftar banquet hosted by the Police Academy.

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Interior Mahmoud Tawfik, Assistant Minister of Interior and President of the Police Academy Major General Nidal Youssef, in addition to several ministers, Police Academy cadets, and their families were present in the event.

According to Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy the president began his remarks by welcoming the students and their families, expressing appreciation for their presence at an institution entrusted with protecting the nation and ensuring the security of its people.

In such a scope, the president stressed the importance of drawing lessons from the events of 2011 and learning from past experiences to prevent their recurrence.

The president commended the Ministry of Interior for its rapid recovery and comprehensive modernisation of Egypt’s security system as part of a broader vision to develop state institutions.

“The development of state institutions must be carried out calmly and carefully, as nations cannot withstand major shocks,” the president said, emphasising the importance of thoughtful and deliberate measures to preserve national stability.

President Sisi noted that the ministry has successfully overcome major challenges over the past decade, particularly in combating terrorism and extremism, which he said often stem from misunderstanding and ignorance, including confusion between individual religious practice and the principles governing the state.

“The state belongs to all its citizens, and ignorance remains one of the most dangerous threats any nation can face,” Shennawy quoted the president as saying.

The president expressed appreciation for the ministry’s dedication and sacrifices over the past ten years, highlighting that efforts to combat terrorism have proceeded alongside institutional development.

In this regard, he pointed to the transformation of 48 prisons into seven modern reform and rehabilitation centres designed to provide educational and rehabilitation programmes that help reintegrate inmates as productive members of society.

He also directed that visits be organised to these centres to showcase their successful experience.

President Sisi emphasised the vital role of the Police Academy in preparing future generations of police officers, noting that the ministry’s development efforts extend to both infrastructure and human capital, including security personnel and inmates undergoing rehabilitation.

Addressing regional developments, the president noted that the region is facing difficult circumstances and expressed hope for a swift end to the ongoing conflict.

“National unity and wise, forward-looking decisions are essential to ensure a safe passage through the current crisis,” he said, warning that the continuation of the war could trigger broader regional and international economic repercussions, particularly rising energy prices.

He also noted that Egypt has endured significant economic pressures over the past five years due to successive global crises.

The president concluded his visit to the Police Academy by performing the Isha and Taraweeh prayers with senior officials and a group of Police Academy cadets.
