President Abdel Fattah El Sisi made a tour Friday in eastern Cairo where he checked progress on the implementation of a number of new infrastructure projects, including roads, and the upgrade of others.
The president toured the area around the Cairo International Airport, notably Mahmoud Badawi Street and its junction with Autostrad Road, Presidency Spokesman, Ambassador Bassam Radi, said.
He added that a new lane had been added to the Autostrad Road from Cairo International Airport to Nasr City, a sprawling neighbourhood in eastern Cairo.
Contractors operating in the area have also widened and improved roads in neighbourhoods around the airport, including 14 kilometres of streets in Sheraton district.
The upgrade of streets in these districts will help ease traffic inside the area and on routes to and from them, Radi said.
Links have also been made between inner streets and roads and main roads in the vicinity of Cairo International Airport.
The improvement of the area around the airport also included the renewal of 35 kilometres of water piping.
A two-kilometre sewage network was also built along Autostrad Road to serve residential areas that will be built in the future, the presidency spokesman added.
The area also has a rain drainage system and two 3-lane flyovers.
During his tour, President Sisi chatted with some of the engineers supervising projects in eastern Cairo about their work and the schedules.
The president also talked with several citizens who happened to be present during his tour. He inquired about their living conditions and listened to some of the demands they made, Ambassador Radi said.
