‘State oriented to encourage private sector partnering in economic development’
President reviews civil aviation sector’ s upgrading programme
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has called for sustained government action to upgrade the entire aviation system in such a way that bolsters the civil aviation’s role in economic development and
encourages private sector partnering in such efforts.
The directives to this effect came during a meeting President Sisi called on Sunday to review the progress of action to upgrade the entire civil aviation system, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed el-Shennawy said.
Taking part in the meeting were State Minister for Military Production Mohamed Salah Eddin and Civil Aviation Minister Sameh el-Hefny.
The Head of the Armed Forces Finance Authority, Lieutenant General Ahmed el-Shazly, the Chairman of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, Major General Ahmed el-Azzazi, and the Acting Chairperson of EgyptAir In-Flight Services Company, Suhair Abdullah, attended the meeting.
Aspects of the action reviewed during the meeting included air navigation, the aircraft fleet, airports and the enhance-ment of human resource skills, Spokesman Shennawy said.
The presentations and discussions dur-ing the meeting focused on following up the national programme for developing the civil aviation system, including the upgrade of airport infrastructure, increasing capacity, and improving passenger services, the presidency spokesman said.
Also considered during the meeting was the role that air transport can undertake in supporting national development programmes with a view to transforming Egypt into a global logistics hub to boost investments, increase the volume of exports and trade, and keep pace with the ongoing growth in
inbound tourism to Egypt.
In the light of the presentations and discussions, President Sisi stressed the importance of sustaining efforts to develop the civil aviation system comprehensively to achieve economic development
plans, Ambassador Shennawy said.
President Sisi also highlighted the need to encourage private sector participation in these efforts in alignment with the state’s strategy to strengthen the role of the private sector in the national economy, the presidency spokesman added.
