Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said Saturday the transition to sustainable energy is one of the basic elements of Egypt’s Vision 2030, and reflects interest in comprehensive development.

Sisi’s statements came in a meeting he chaired, with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker, and Minister of Petroleum Tariq el-Molla, attending.

Sisi was briefed during the meeting on the government’s efforts to implement the national strategy of green hydrogen, where the hydrogen production process, and procedures for building national capabilities were reviewed, said spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.

The Egyptian strategy goes directly towards becoming one of the leading countries in the low-carbon hydrogen economy in the world, which will allow the creation of more job opportunities and increase national income in the coming years, he added.

The meeting reviewed projects scheduled to be launched in the next phase of implementing the national strategy, and the role that the state will play in reducing the cost of hydrogen production, as well as the targeted scenarios for reducing Egypt’s imports of oil products.

The government was directed to begin implementing projects that had been agreed upon, and provide the necessary infrastructure for them, he said, stressing that the transition to sustainable energy is one of the basic elements of Egypt’s Vision 2030
