Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said that the state is keen to raise the level of public universities in parallel with the establishment of new ones nationwide, with the objective being to provide quality education and training for the current and future labour market.
The President’s remarks came during his visit to Kafr El-Sheikh University on Tuesday morning during which he participated in a group breakfast with students, faculty and university employees. The president was keen to hold an open dialogue with them to listen to their views.
During the visit, the President highlighted that the state accords highest priority to young people, train them and qualify them in all fields as they are the true hope and treasure for Egypt in its efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development in the coming years.
The President also stressed to the students the importance of developing awareness of the present changes and challenges, whether domestically or regionally and internationally.
This should come in parallel with developing their scientific and academic level and developing their capabilities to keep pace with the current and future development of the labour market.
Meanwhile, President Sisi held a meeting with the Supreme Council of Universities at Kafr El-Sheikh University headquarters.
During the meeting, the president affirmed that the state fully supports the university system and appreciates its important role as it believes that distinguished and advanced university education is the locomotive of progress that leads nations to a better future.
The President also directed the Supreme Council of Universities to strengthen mechanisms for sponsoring and supporting talented and outstanding students in order to build a generation of distinguished cadres capable of making innovative contributions to the country’s sustainable development process and to the consolidation of knowledge, innovation and creativity in the society.
The President also called for linking scientific research system and its specialised research centres with the university education and providing all facilities for the preparation of innovative research and studies in order to participate in formulating scientific solutions to the challenges facing the Egyptian state and national development projects in all fields.
President Sisi, meanwhile, emphasised that activities within universities be geared to building the students’ personality, enhancing their awareness and understanding the challenges and opportunities in Egypt.
For their part, the members of the Supreme Council of Universities expressed their honour to meet the President and their appreciation for his keenness to enhance the role of Egyptian universities in forming a pool of young people who are able to compete in the labour market and achieve community needs and comprehensive development plans.
