CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed the need to find a radical and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, based on the two-state solution, which in turn could contribute to achieving justice, peace and stability in the region in a sustainable manner.
The president also emphasised that the current regional developments should not overshadow the efforts aimed at delivering relief aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who are suffering from inhumane living and health conditions.
President Sisi made the remarks during his meeting on Monday with visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty, said Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi.
The spokesman noted that the two sides expressed hope for holding the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Council between Egypt and Turkey, which represents a shift in the path of bilateral cooperation, based on mutual respect and common interest.
They also highlighted that this strategic council would help enhance coordination and consultation between the two countries, with a view to achieving security and stability in the region.
The spokesman stated that the meeting focused on the current serious escalation in the region, where President Sisi called for exercising the utmost restraint and raising the voice of reason and wisdom.
President Sisi underlined that defusing the mounting tensions in the region requires joining efforts of the active powers and the international community to bring about an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and provide an opportunity for political and diplomatic solutions.
The president pointed out that Egypt has repeatedly warned about the risk of expanding the war, in a way that threatens regional and international peace and security.
The two parties also reviewed sustained and intensive efforts made by Egypt to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and conduct a prisoner-hostage exchange.
We hope that Egypt effort to end the the war in Gaza will bear fruit.
