Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed Egypt’s support for the pivotal role played by the Arab League (AL) to enhance joint Arab action and preserve Arab unity in the face of the current complicated and unprecedented challenges in the region.
Sisi’s comments came during his meeting on Monday with Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit, said Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi.
The AL secretary general congratulated President Sisi on his re-election for a new presidential term, wishing him success in serving the Egyptian people and the Arab nation.
The two sides probed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the Gaza Strip and the efforts exerted to reach a ceasefire and deliver humanitarian aid to the Israeli-besieged enclave.
They also stressed the importance of activating the political path to a two-state solution, in a way that enables the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights and establish an independent Palestinian state, in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.
