CAIRO – Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi affirmed that Sinai, where the one-time occurrence of God’s Revelation occurred, is a source of pride for the Egyptian nation.
“I speak to you today on an occasion marking the 40th anniversary of the Sinai Liberation Day.. this precious part of our homeland, that is also engraved in the hearts of all Egyptians over the ages and through successive generations,” President Sisi said in a televised speech on Monday.
“Sinai is a source of pride to this nation, as it is renowned as the principal site of God’s Revelation,” President Sisi added.
Speaking on the occasion marking the 40th anniversary of Sinai Liberation Day, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said that April 25 will forever remain engraved in the memory of “our homeland”.
“This day is embodying the will and determination asserted by generations that recognized the value of belonging to the nation,” he added.
President Sisi, meanwhile, saluted everyone who contributed to restoring this sacred land along with the men of Egyptian diplomacy, who spearheaded the battle to negotiate, with much patience and perseverance, to restore the beloved Sinai Peninsula.
President Sisi also saluted the soul of late President Mohamed Anwar el Sadat, who took the decisions of both war and peace, steered by the vision of a leader, who sought to provide a safe environment and stability for his people and all peace-loving peoples.
President Sisi also referred to the projects which are being implemented across Sinai in a bid to attain development, utilize its resources and attain prosperity for the people of the peninsula.
He further said that the Sinai liberation celebrations coincide this year with many religious and national occasions, including the passing of 50 hijri years commemorating the 10th of Ramadan victory, which paved the way for restoring this blessed spot of Egypt’s land.
Extending greetings to Christians on the occasion of Easter, President Sisi said that Easter along with the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan coincide also this year with the Sinai liberation celebrations.
President Sisi further said that Egypt gives top priority to enhancing its comprehensive powers, especially in light of the complex regional and international situation.
“Indeed it is now becoming all the more certain that those who want peace must possess the necessary power to protect it,” he added.
“As much attention is given to our military capability, we are also moving, in tandem, to enhance the rest of the State’s comprehensive capabilities; the most important of which is its economic capacity,” he added.
Egypt seeks to establish a robust national economy, capable of facing various crises, in order to achieve high growth rates and provide many job opportunities for youth.
“As I conclude my speech, I ask Allah Almighty to keep bestowing the blessings of security and stability upon us and to preserve Egypt and its people from all harms and evil,” he said.
This day is celebrated each year to commemorate the full withdrawal of all Israeli military forces from the Sinai Peninsula in 1982, following the 1979 US-brokered Camp David peace accords.
The accords were signed after the Egyptian army’s victory over Israeli occupation forces in the October 1973 War.
