President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on tuesday.
Presidency Spokesman Mohamed El-Shenawy said President Sisi welcomed the ceasefire agreement reached between India and Pakistan, stressing the importance of maintaining and sustaining the truce.
He also underscored the need to find lasting political solutions to the long-standing crisis between the two nations to ensure security and stability in South Asia.
Prime Minister Sharif thanked President Sisi for Egypt’s efforts – alongside other countries – to de-escalate tension between India and Pakistan.
He also commended President Sisi’s keenness to promote regional and international peace and security.
Both leaders addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, and investment. They affirmed their keenness to explore broader prospects for co-operation, building on the historic ties between the two countries.
They also underscored the importance of joint efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, in line with the active roles both countries play in their respective regions.
The discussion also touched on regional issues, foremost among them the ongoing aggression in Gaza.
The two leaders emphasised the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid into the Strip.
They also stressed the importance of building on the broad support for the Arab-Islamic plan for Gaza reconstruction, urging its swift implementation to alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe facing the Palestinian people.
