CAIRO – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday handed over a message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to his Cypriot counterpart Nicos Anastasiades as part of close ties binding the two friendly countries and their leaders’ keenness on pushing them forward.
This came during a meeting of the Cypriot president and the Egyptian top diplomat, who is currently on a visit to Nicosia.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Ahmed Hafez said Shourky conveyed the greetings of Sisi to his Cypriot counterpart and praised the level of relations crowned by launching the Egyptian-Cypriot Higher Committee during the last visit of Anastasiades to Cairo in September 2021.
The meeting also took up a number of joint projects in a set of fields topped by energy, agriculture and transport, said the spokesman, adding that the two sides also followed up the power grid project following the signing of a memorandum of understanding in October 2021 that was followed by a three-way MOU between Egypt, Cyprus and Greece.
Shoukry also asserted the importance of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum in supporting regional cooperation in the field of energy, extending greetings to the Cypriot side over assuming the presidency of the forum as of early 2022.
The Cypriot president, on his part, extended greetings to President Sisi, asserting that he was deeply interested in consolidating ties with Egypt in the various fields and was looking forward to activating joint projects that would enhance partnership.
