Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the bodies concerned to take the cultural and knowledge aspects, especially libraries, into account while working on the development of Cairo’s road and bridge networks, and not to confine the development process to commercial and service activities only.
Sisi made the directives during a meeting with Chairman of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority (AFEA) Maj. Gen. Hesham El Swefy, Chairman of AFEA Advisory Office Maj. Gen. Ashraf El-Araby, and Presidential Advisor for Urban Planning Maj. Gen. Amir Sayed Ahmed, to follow up on the construction progress of the authority’s projects nationwide, including the New Administrative Capital.
The meeting covered road and bridge development projects to address traffic congestion in Greater Cairo and upgrade Al Mokattam neighborhood’s roads, according to a statement by Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.
The president was also briefed on the progress of development efforts in the service sector, especially modern central malls, landscaping activities and gardens around the Citadel of Cairo, and the capital’s eastern entry point around the Hussein Kamel St., which include establishing new commercial and service areas and footbridges.
Also, he was posted on progress in construction and engineering work of some buildings in the New Administrative Capital, especially in the diplomatic district and residential areas.
