Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi followed up the system of agricultural production and food security across the nation during his meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation al-Sayed al-Quseir, Presidency Spokesman Bassam Radi said.
The president directed the government to develop the contracts for crops in order to support farmers and increase their incomes and profits. The president also directed that supply prices be reviewed ahead of the harvest season, to look into offering additional financial incentives, Radi said.
For his part, Minister al-Quseir briefed the president on measures taken by his ministry to apply the contract system for the strategic crops, including the recent practice of determining an indicative price for the wheat crop.
He also reviewed an executive plan to increase percentage of reliance on seeds that are used in various agricultural projects nationwide, as a pivot for maximising agricultural production, together with intensifying awareness campaigns targeting farmers, and enhancing partnership with the private sector in this regard.
In addition, the meeting reviewed present production capacities and the executive situation of the projects that are under way to boost fertilisers production, in light of the relevant developments on the local and global scenes.
This is conducted in a way to keep pace with the present and future plans to maximise the acreage of reclaimed areas to meet food needs. Spokesman Radi said.
Moreover, Minister al-Quseir acquainted President Sisi with the ministry’s efforts to maximise livestock, develop fodder system, and to improve breeds, as well as looking after small breeders.
These efforts also include carrying on with upgrading the efficiency of the method of combating trans-border diseases through the veterinary vaccines system.
