Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support for Iraq and its efforts to bolster security, stability, and development.
The president’s remarks came during his meeting on Tuesday with Leader of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement Ammar Al-Hakim. The meeting was attended by Head of the General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel.
For his part, Al-Hakim emphasised the strong and profound historical ties between the two countries, stressing the pivotal role Egypt plays in safeguarding the security and stability of the Arab region.
He also expressed gratitude for Egypt’s backing for Iraq and its genuine stances in support of all Arab and Islamic countries.
The meeting also discussed the volatile regional situation, including the war in the Gaza Strip. President Sisi reviewed Egypt’s intensive efforts to reach a ceasefire and deliver substantial quantities of humanitarian aid into Gaza to alleviate the immense suffering in the besieged territory.
The meeting underscored the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities in protecting civilians and halting the violence, along with the importance of finding a just and comprehensive settlement for the Palestinian issue.
The meeting also warned of the grave risks posed by continued escalation and its repercussions for regional stability.
