Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi asserted Egypt’s unwavering support for Iraq’s security and stability, praising the depth and strength of strategic ties binding the two countries along with keenness on diversifying fields of joint cooperation in the economic, political and trade domains and within the framework of a three-way cooperation mechanism with Jordan.
This came as Sisi welcomed Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani and his accompanying delegation at Ittihadiya Palace on Tuesday.
Sudani, who embarked on a visit to Egypt, is accompanied by his ministers of foreign affairs, housing, trade and electricity, as well as the governor of the Central Bank of Iraq.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and a galaxy of top state officials attended the meeting.
Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi said the Iraqi premier commended the sisterly and historical ties binding the two countries, asserting Baghdad’s keenness on beefing up mechanisms of bilateral co-operation with Egypt and building up on the outcome of his recent visit to Cairo in March.
Sudani also noted that exchanging visits between the two sides reflected their common keenness on opening up new horizons of co-operation in the coming phase with the aim of benefiting from the Egyptian potentials and expertise in the various fields and drawing on Egypt’s prominent role to enhance joint Arab action in the face of the current regional challenges and crises, the spokesman said.
The meeting also covered means of promoting framework of bilateral co-operation in the various fields especially the fields of security, trade exchange, investments and development of infrastructure, added the spokesman.
They exchanged viewpoints on Arab and regional issues of common interest in light of the pivotal role of the two countries in the region, said the spokesman, adding that the two sides reiterated their keenness on enhancing joint Arab action in a way that contributes to countering any common challenges facing the Arab nation in the current phase and achieves the aspirations of the peoples of the region to live in peace and stability.
