Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has called for government action to achieve integration and harmony between the Egyptian Museum and all sites in the facility’s proximity through a network of connecting roads and axes.
The president’s remark came during his meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli as well as a host of ministers and senior officials, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
The meeting was devoted to a follow-up of the executive position of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) project and the progress of construction works, especially regarding to utilities and services.
In directives to the government following that review, President Sisi called for ensuring complementation and harmony between GEM and its vicinity through a network of roads and traffic axes, especially including those that connect the facility with the Giza Pyramids Plateau as well as with both Cairo International Airport and Sphinx Airport.
The aspired integration and harmony, President Sisi noted, would develop the area into one of the world’s most important tourist attractions, in addition to matching the importance of the museum as the largest edifice to display antiquities in the world and a cultural icon for all of humanity, Spokesman Radi said.
Also reviewed during the meeting were the ongoing efforts to restore a number of archaeological and historical areas nationwide, especially including the Graeco-Roman Museum in Alexandria and the Prince Mohamed Ali Palace.
At another meeting also yesterday, President Sisi called for reinvigorating the tourism sector as an investment in the country’s rich acquisition of world-standard tourism potentials, enhanced by a unique cultural and civilisational heritage.
The meeting with Prime Minister Madbouli and Tourism and Antiquities Minister Ahmed Essa focused on reviewing the tourism sector’s strategy for future action, Spokesman Radi said.
The directives President Sisi gave during the meeting called for achieving tangible and realistic implementation rates in tourism projects related to the tourism field at the state level, Spokesman Radi said.
President Sisi also called for benefiting from the national developmental process in implementing tourism projects and ensuring the complementation of such projects with the state action to raise the efficiency of the infrastructure in various sectors; thereby achieving a great added value that enhances support for tourism.
In a presentation he made during the meeting, Tourism Minister Essa outlined the plans for future action to stimulate investments in all tourist destinations nationwide and boost the capacity of airline routes.
