Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received on Saturday Bahraini monarch, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.
He expressed pride in the historical ties binding the peoples of Egypt and Bahrain together, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
He added that the president also underscored Egypt’s keenness to move ahead with strengthening ties and enhancing co-operation with the brotherly Gulf kingdom in all spheres.
The president also expressed hopes that Cairo and Manama can intensify the pace of their joint coordination on different developments in the region and work together to bolster Arab unity and action in the face of regional and international challenges, the spokesman said.
King Hamad, for his part, praised what he described as ‘close’ and ‘brotherly’ relations with Egypt, Ambassador Radi said.
The Bahraini monarch said his current visit to Egypt comes within the framework of historical and distinguished relations with the Arab country.
He also applauded Egypt’s pivotal and firm role as a mainstay for security and stability in the region.
He referred to what he termed as Egypt’s ‘appreciated efforts’ to promote joint Arab action at all levels.
King Hamad also praised the great development happening in Egyptian-Bahraini relations in all political, economic, development fields.
“We want to move forward towards deeper relations,” King Hamad said.
Ambassador Radi said talks between the president and the Bahraini monarch focused on prospects for joint co-operation, especially in the economic and investment fields.
The two leaders, he said, discussed means of making optimal use of all available opportunities to enhance co-operation.
He added that the discussions also dwelt on a number of prominent regional and international issues, reflecting mutual understanding.
They, he said, also reached agreement on the need for maximising Egyptian-Bahraini co-operation and coordination to push joint Arab action forward and protect Arab national security.
He added that they also welcomed a summit scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia and bring together the leaders of Gulf Co-operation Council member states, along with the leaders of Egypt, Jordan, Iraq and the US.
