Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday received the visiting the leader of the Iraqi al-Hikma (Wisdom) Movement, Ammar al-Hakim. Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, the Head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Maj-Gen Abbas Kamel and Iraq’s Ambassador to Cairo Ahmed al-Dulaimi attended the meeting.
The political scene in Iraq and key regional developments of common interest were considered during the meeting, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
President Sisi expressed gratification over the deep-rooted and close fraternal ties between Egypt and Iraq at both official and popular levels, and stressed keenness on the safety, security and stability of Iraq, spokesman Fahmy said.
The President reaffirmed Egypt’s support to Iraq’s efforts to achieve development, progress and revival, and expressed valuation of the constructive role undertaken by al-Hakim in the maintenance of stability and balance in Iraq, Fahmy added.
For his part, Al Hakim highly appreciated the sagacious leadership model that President Sisi represents at local, regional and international levels, as well as Egypt’s role as a pillar and a basic guarantor for maintaining stability in the Islamic and the Arab region, the Presidency spokesman said.
Al-Hakim voiced his country’s aspiration for the continuation of action to bolster the close historical ties between Iraq and Egypt, spokesman Fahmy said.
Expressing appreciation for Egypt’s efforts backing Iraq, the Iraqi politician noted his country’s eagerness to benefit from Egyptian expertise in all fields of development, the Presidency spokesman said.
