CAIRO – President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin will participate on Wednesday via video conference in a historic event to mark the installation of the Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) at the El Dabaa First Nuclear Unit and the signing of the nuclear fuel procurement order.
The milestone represents a pivotal step in the ongoing development of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project.
Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El Shennawy said that the event coincides with Egypt’s annual celebration of Nuclear Energy Day on November 19.
The day commemorates the signing of the government-to-government agreement between Egypt and the Russian Federation to build and operate the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. It is regarded as a symbolic launch of Egypt’s peaceful nuclear program.
Shennawy added that the participation of Presidents Sisi and Putin underscores the depth of strategic relations between the two countries.
He noted that it also highlights the continuity of fruitful bilateral cooperation through landmark projects that have shaped Egypt’s development.
These include initiatives ranging from the construction of the High Dam in the 1960s to the national project establishing the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, he added.
He noted that President Sisi is scheduled to deliver a speech during the ceremony.
The RPV, manufactured in Russia, was shipped from St. Petersburg and arrived at the El Dabaa site in October 2025 after a 20-day sea journey.
