Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin Friday agreed to resume flights between airports of their two countries, including the Egyptian Red Sea resorts of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada.
The two leaders also discussed co-operation between their two countries in a wide range of sectors, particularly tourism.
The resumption of flights between Egypt and Russia marks successful co-operation between both countries, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
He added that resuming flights comes with the required security and safety measures for incoming tourists to Egyptian tourist destinations.
President Sisi welcomed the resumption of flights from Russia, expressing hope that this move would provide an incentive for closer relations between Egypt and Russia on the road to easing the movement of persons and groups of tourists between them.
President Putin said his country was keen to enhance all aspects of relations with Egypt.
He praised the extended partnership with Egypt as well as what he described as the “tangible” results of co-operation between the two countries in all economic and social development fields.
The Russian leader also hailed the national megaprojects being implemented in Egypt, the upgrade of the country’s infrastructure, as well as improvements in its investment climate.
Russia has high hopes for Egypt’s pivotal role in furthering the stability of the region, Putin said.
The two leaders also discussed the situation in Libya and developments on Ethiopia’s Nile dam project, widely known as GERD, Ambassador Radi said.
President Sisi and President Putin also discussed bilateral investment co-operation in the economic zone of the Suez Canal and the nuclear power station planned to be constructed in Dabaa, near Marsa Matrouh.
They agreed to intensify coordination and boost bilateral relations at all levels, in ways that match the weight and the importance of their two countries, especially in the light of the comprehensive strategic partnership between them, the presidency spokesman added.
