CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Saturday received a delegation from the US Congress led by Senator Richard Shelby.
Welcoming the delegation members, Sisi stressed the great importance Egypt attaches to maintaining constant communication with Congressional leaders for mutual coordination and consultation on various issues of mutual concern, according to Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.
Sisi also hailed the robust ties between Egypt and the US, asserting Egypt’s commitment to pushing these ties forward based on the principles of mutual respect and common interest, especially in light of the volatile regional situation and the mounting challenges arising from it.
Meanwhile, the delegation members said Egypt is the linchpin of peace and stability across the Middle East and Arab world, commending the effective and successful role it plays on that score under the leadership of President Sisi.
They also praised Egypt’s successful efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, while promoting the noble value of free thought, applauding also the strenuous efforts under way in Egypt to achieve comprehensive development.
The meeting took up ways to bolster bilateral relations in various domains, especially at the military and economic levels, and the latest regional as well as international developments, the spokesman noted.
Discussing the latest updates on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the delegation lauded Egypt’s efforts to push the Middle East peace process.
Meanwhile, Sisi stressed Egypt’s steadfast stand on the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the conflict protecting the Palestinian people’s rights under the international terms of reference, which will open up opportunities for coexistence and co-operation among all the peoples of the region.
