Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, Head of the Armed Forces Financial Affairs Authority General Ahmed el-Shazly, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology Bakr el-Bayoumi, and Director of the Signal Corps of the Armed Forces Major General Hani Mansour.

During the meeting, President Sisi reviewed progress of the establishment of data centres and the launch of cloud computing services in Egypt. This is part of the implementation of the pillars of the Digital Egypt Strategy, building on Egypt’s opening of large-scale data centres last April.

The president also followed up on the government’s efforts to provide an environment conducive for encouraging global investments, capitalising on Egypt’s ongoing advancements in technological and information infrastructure, in line with the State’s prioritisation of the telecommunications and information technology sector.

President Sisi called for intensifying efforts to improve the country’s capacity to attract investments in data centres and cloud computing, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.

The president stressed the importance of leveraging Egypt’s comparative advantages in this area, including the infrastructure that has been built over the past few years and Egypt’s strategic geographic location, where data and communication cables intersect between Africa, Asia, and Europe, Fahmy added. The majority of internet signals between Asia and Europe also pass through Egypt.

The president also stressed the need to maintain strong focus on developing the technological skills of Egyptian youth and qualifying digital talents capable of competing effectively in both local and global labour markets.
