Sisi praises Spain’s supportive stance of Palestinians’ rights

Sisi’s comments came during his meeting on Thursday with visiting Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares, in the presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, said Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi.

During the meeting, President Sisi stressed Egypt’s keenness to enhance cooperation with Spain in different fields, notably in the trade and investment ones.

The spokesman added that the two sides discussed the latest developments in the region, where the Spanish foreign minister expressed his country’s and the EU’s appreciation of Egypt’s status as a key regional player seeking to bring about peace and stability in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean region.

In this regard, Albares highlighted Egypt’s important role in the Gaza crisis, citing its relentless endeavors to restore calm, reach a ceasefire and swap Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners, in addition to delivering humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave.

Sisi and Albares stressed their rejection of the military escalation in Gaza, warning that any Israeli military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafah will have dire humanitarian consequences.

The pair emphasized the necessity of securing an immediate ceasefire and allowing the entry of relief aid in sufficient quantities into the Palestinian enclave, as well as supporting the UNRWA to assume its humanitarian role.

They also called on the international community to take concrete steps towards recognizing the Palestinian state and granting Palestine full membership in the United Nations, which opens the door to activating the two-state solution as being the basis for regaining regional security and stability.
