Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed on Sunday that setting up a Palestinian state within June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital is the only guarantee to achieving lasting peace.
He underlined the importance of starting the reconstruction of Gaza without the displacement of its residents.
Sisi made the remarks during his meeting with head of the World Jewish Congress Ronald Lauder in the presence of Egyptian Intelligence chief Hassan Rashad.
Presidential spokesman Mohamed el Shennawi said talks tackled ways of restoring stability in the Middle East as the two sides expounded efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement, including the exchange of captives and detainees and the entry of humanitarian aid.
Sisi said all sides should show a sense of responsibility to ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire deal, warning that expanding the scope of the conflict would harm all sides without any exception.
Lauder praised Egypt’s pioneering role in achieving peace in the Middle East and its wise efforts to enhance regional stability.
He voiced keenness on maintaining coordination with Egypt towards different topics.
Lauder expressed happiness over visiting Egypt, saying he held a useful and excellent meeting with President Sisi.
He said Egyptian-American relations are crucial for the stability of the region and that the US Congress backs efforts aiming at preserving peace and stability in the region.
He added that he is looking forward to the Egyptian Arab proposal on Gaza, stressing that peace should be achieved through the two-state solution.
