President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has reviewed the scene of the availability of basic food commodities nationwide and the crop yield projections for the current cultivation season.

The review meeting was called within the framework of the state’s advance planning to maintain the country’s strategic reserves of all basic food commodities, taking into consideration the ongoing world food crisis, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

Attending the meeting were Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali el-Moselhi and Director of the Armed Forces’ National Service Projects Organisation Walid Abul-Magd.

During the meeting, President Sisi was briefed on the status of the strategic stocks of basic food commodities nationwide, Spokesman Radi said, adding that Supply Minister Moselhi made a presentation outlining the strategic stocks of wheat, sugar, corn, oil and rice.

Reserves of such commodities suffice for a period of 4 to 6 months, Minister Moselhi said, adding that the existing stock of fresh meat and poultry suffices for a full year.

In directives following the briefing, President Sisi called for ensuring the continuity of the state’s strategic stocks of basic food commodities, as well as maximising the added value of storing them in the chain of strategic silos that had been established across the country in order to maintain the stability of the food security through fulfilling people’s needs in suitable quantities, Spokesman Radi said.

The meeting also featured a review of the latest developments of the current plantation season. In relevant directives, President Sisi called for defining prices for wheat supply in a way that  brings rewarding economic returns to crop growers and farmers, thereby supporting an increase in the volume of wheat supply, Spokesman Radi said.

For his part, Director of the Armed Forces’ National Service Projects Organisation Walid Abul-Magd briefd the meeting on the executive position of a host of reclamation projects, mainly the Wadi el-Sheeh farm in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Assuit, where wheat cultivation is being carried out in line with the latest digital farming technology.

The briefing also included the status of citrus and corn cultivation, in addition to the livestock farm production with the use of the highest breeds and the output of poultry and fish farming facilities, the spokesman said.

During the meeting, President Sisi was also briefed on developments of the azotic fertilisers complex in Ain Sukhna, which consists of six facilities for local production and export, in co-operation with the outstanding German expertise represented by the “Thyssenkrupp” global conglomerate, Spokesman Radi said.

Presidnet Sisi also followed up on the executive position of the school feeding programme for the current school year and the project of establishing integrated plasma collection centres across the nation, in terms of construction and equipping them, Spokesman Radi said.
