CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi opened on Sunday the Government Data and Cloud Computing Center in Ain Sokhna via video conference technology.
Omar eleImam, the director of the country’s main data centre, gave a detailed explanation about the center’s work during which he pointed out that the centre was implemented by Egyptian cadres working for digital transformation companies and more than 30 specialized and pioneering international companies in the field of cloud computing technology and data centres.
The centre was established on an area of more than 23,000 square metres equipped with the latest systems to ensure the continuity of services provided, he said.
The center includes two sub-centres: the first includes the technological infrastructure for the closed cloud to serve users in ministries and government agencies in the Administrative Capital, and the second is for the public cloud to make digital government services available to citizens through databases and specialised applications for ministries and government agencies at the center.
Director of the State Interchange Centre Omar Abdul Rahman Saif briefed the attendees on the work of the interchange data center, saying it works with the main center in a reciprocal manner to ensure the continuity of the systems’ work and provides all cloud computing services within a flexible work environment.
He added that the center supports artificial intelligence applications and big data analysis and is one of the largest data centers in the Middle East with a total area of 192,000 square meters.
He added that it is fed by a 40-megawatt power station that was established only for this purpose.
