Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre probed Saturday ways to boost bilateral cooperation, especially at the commercial and tourism levels.

Sisi had a meeting with the Norwegian official on the margins of their participation in the 28th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28), set for November 30 to December 12 in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

Sisi also discussed how to benefit from Norway’s expertise in clean energy projects, given previous instances of successful cooperation between the Egyptian government and Scatec ASA (Scatec), an integrated independent producer of renewable energy that develops, builds, owns and operates different renewable energy plants, according to Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.

The two sides also reviewed trilateral cooperation grouping Egypt, Norway, and African nations.

A wide range of regional issues also figured high on the meeting agenda, topped by the Gaza crisis, following the regional momentum achieved by the “Cairo Summit for Peace” in October and the extraordinary joint Arab-Islamic summit Riyadh hosted last month.

The two sides agreed that the only way out of the ongoing crisis in Gaza is to work for a comprehensive and just settlement to the Palestinian problem, based on a two-state solution.

They also stressed the importance of exercising pressure on the conflicting parties to protect civilians and prevent the conflict from spreading to neighboring countries.

Meanwhile, Sisi underlined Egypt’s commitment to keep coordinating regional and international efforts to provide urgent assistance to the people of Gaza and restore calm in the war-ravaged enclave.
