Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Monday reviewed the developments of the executive position of the national project for agricultural production and land reclamation in the New Delta, which comes as part of the state’s strategy to increase the area of agricultural lands from the total area of the country.
The president’s follow-up came during his meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli as well as a host of ministers and senior officials, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
During the meeting, the president was briefed on the efforts to develop the necessary infrastructure and the provision of machinery and equipment such as modern means of irrigation, water stations and agro-mechanisation.
The president also gave directives for sustained coordination between the authorities concerned and sectors to complete the elements and components of this project, Spokesman Fahmy said.
In this context, President Sisi called for the continuation of employing modern irrigation systems within the framework of the state’s policy of rationalising water consumption and raising the efficiency of water resources management, in an effort to achieve the desired strategic goal of adding new areas of the agricultural area to Egypt, Spokesman Fahmy said.
Achieving such a strategic goal, the president noted, would contribute to preserving and developing agro-economic resources, realising food security and reducing the import gap, as well as establishing new urban, agricultural and industrial communities that contribute to absorbing population growth, adding more job opportunities and increasing income for citizens.
