President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday reviewed in two separate meetings the executive situation of a number of national food security and agricultural projects being carried out across the country, including ‘Egypt’s Future’ mega project for agricultural production.
Attending the first meeting were Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Al-Sayed Al-Quseir, Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Staff Maj Gen Ihab el-Far, Head of the Armed Forces National Service Products Organisation Maj Gen Walid Abu Al-Majd.
The presentations made by participants covered the status of some strategic crops, especially including wheat as its local harvest season is drawing near and the state’s efforts are under way to increase its productivity by expanding agricultural areas and boosting the crop’s quality through the use of the best seeds, introducing modern means of irrigation and enlarging reliance on agro-mechanisation, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
In light of these presentations, President Sisi gave directives for granting additional incentives for crop supply in order to encourage farmers to deliver the largest possible quantities in accordance with the terms to be set out by the bodies concerned, Spokesman Radi said.
The executive situation of sugar cane plantations in Kom Ombo and Wadi el Sayida, Upper Egypt, was also reviewed during the meeting, Spokesman Radi said.
Regarding the state action to develop the fisheries sector and lakes all over the country, mainly the High Dam, Manzala, Burullus and Bardawil, President Sisi gave directives for the provision of all the necessary financial resources to the sector in order to bolster the system of developing fish wealth and stocks nationwide.
President Sisi was also briefed during the meeting on the efforts to promote Egypt’s livestock, Spokesman Radi said.
The second meeting, also attended by the prime minister, Minister Al-Quseir and a host of senior state officials,was devoted to reviewing the executive situation of the National Project for Agricultural Production Mustaqbal Misr (Egypt’s Future), Spokesman Radi said.
Presentations by participants in the meeting outlined the ongoing and planned steps to implement the project with special reference to what has been achieved in terms of the size of the cultivated areas, the state of water and power supplies and other components of the project’s infrastructure, the spokesman said.
Following these presentations, President Sisi gave directives for completing the implementation of such a strategic project which will give a strong push to the country’s agro industrial potential, generate thousands of job opportunities in various specialisations and boost the state’s strategy for expanding the size of agricultural lands, Spokesman Radi said.
In addition to following up on the progress of action to build the project’s infrastructure, President Sisi reviewed during the meeting the executive position of efforts to implement some other agricultural projects, especially including those in the two governorates of Beni Suef and Menia, since all such projects would represent an added value to the national food production potential, Spokesman Radi said.
