Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed Egypt’s pride in its distinguished relations with Brazil and highlighted aspiration to develop ties between the two countries in various fields in order to benefit from their diverse capabilities, especially in light of the Brazilian development experience and its strategic importance.
The president’s remarks came as he received Vice President of the Federative Republic of Brazil Hamilton Mourão in Cairo on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri and the Brazilian ambassador in Cairo, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
Mourão praised the tangible progress that Egypt has achieved over the past years in terms of economic reform and the achievement of comprehensive development.
He also expressed appreciation for the strong ties between the two friendly countries on both political and economic levels and highlighted Brazil’s keenness to advance bilateral co-operation between the two countries, especially in the economic, commercial and military fields.
The two sides also affirmed their keenness to continue coordination in international forums, especially in light of their shared views on all international and regional issues, including disarmament and non-alignment.
Egypt and Brazil represent the interests and visions of developing countries in international forums as they are among the most influential countries in promoting regional stability in their geographical surroundings.
The Brazilian vice-president was also keen to understand the latest developments in the regional situation in the Middle East in light of the pivotal role of Egypt in the region under the leadership of President Sisi.
President Sisi and the Brazilian official exchanged views regarding the Palestinian cause and developments in Libya and Tunisia. President Sisi asserted Egypt’s continuous efforts to maintain regional security and stability.
They also discussed the latest developments regarding Grand Ethiopia’s Renaissance Dam (GERD) file, including the issuance of the recent presidential statement by the UN Security Council, which called upon all parties to reach a legally binding agreement on filling and operating the dam within a short period.
The Brazilian vice-president affirmed in this context his country’s understanding of the importance of the flow of the River Nile to Egypt for the Egyptian water and food security.
