Tamim praises Egyptian leadership, congratulates Sisi on June 30 Revolution anniversary
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received at the Presidential Palace on Saturday Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, who had arrived in Cairo late on Friday, for an official visit to Egypt, his first to the country since 2017.
President Sisi and Sheikh Tamim held a one-to-one meeting and then were joined by officials from their countries, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
He added that Egyptian-Qatari relations are witnessing progress and consolidation.
The spokesman expected these relations to grow even closer in all fields in the coming period.
Sheikh Tamim thanked President Sisi for the warm welcome and hospitality he extended to him and his delegation during their visit to Egypt, Ambassador Radi said.
He congratulated the president on the approaching anniversary of the June 30 Revolution, he added.
He noted that the emir of Qatar expressed appreciation for the Egyptian leadership and people.
Egypt, he said, plays a pivotal role in serving Arab causes.
Sheikh Tamim also referred to efforts made by Egypt to consolidate Arab solidarity at all levels, as well as what he described as the ‘wise policies’ pursued by Egypt and President Sisi at all internal, regional and international levels, Ambassador Radi said.
The Qatari leader also affirmed his country’s keenness to continue reciprocal steps with the aim of advancing and strengthening the various mechanisms of bilateral co-operation with Egypt during the coming period.
This would be done, he said, by maximising Qatari investments in Egypt and exploiting the investment opportunities available in the country.
Sheikh Tamim also praised the contributions Egyptian workers make to the construction and development of his country in all fields, the spokesman said.
He added that President Sisi and Sheikh Tamim agreed to step up co-operation in various fields in the coming period, especially in energy and agriculture.
The Egyptian and Qatari leaders also agreed to enhance investment co-operation and revitalise trade exchange, especially with regard to the enhancement of the flow of Qatari investments to Egypt.
This, they said, would serve the common interests of Egypt and Qatar.
Ambassador Radi noted that President Sisi and Sheikh Tamim discussed a wide range of issues during their meeting, including regional developments.
The two leaders agreed, he said, on the need for uniting Arab countries.
He added that the two leaders also agreed on the need for strengthening coordination between their two countries in the face of regional and international challenges.
Ambassador Radi noted that the two leaders also discussed the Palestinian cause.
Sheikh Tamim, he said, praised Egyptian efforts to rebuild the Gaza Strip.
He added that President Sisi and Sheikh Tamim agreed on the importance of working to revive
Palestinian-Israeli peacemaking on the road to a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.
This solution, they said, has to guarantee the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people in accordance with the references of international legitimacy.
The two leaders also discussed means of addressing the negative repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis on the global economy, Ambassador Radi said.
He added that they also discussed prospects for joint co-operation in the fight against terrorism and the extremist ideology.
He noted that the president and the emir of Qatar called for intensifying international efforts in confronting this phenomenon, within the framework of an integrated strategy that includes addressing its intellectual and developmental aspects as well by means of security action.
President Sisi and Sheikh Tamim also welcomed the next meeting in Saudi Arabia of Gulf Co-operation Council leaders in addition to the leaders of Egypt, Jordan, Iraq and the United States, Ambassador Radi said.
