Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Saturday with Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Dubai.
The Egyptian and Italian leaders stressed their keenness to strengthen the strategic relations between the two friendly countries and to broaden cooperation horizons at various levels, said the presidential spokesman.
Egypt and Italy also discussed maximizing coordination and consultation during the coming period regarding various political, security, military, development and economic files of mutual interest, he added.
The meeting witnessed exchange of visions and viewpoints regarding regional and international issues, especially the latest developments in the situation in the Gaza Strip, with the Italian Prime Minister thanking Egypt for its pioneering role in advancing peace efforts in the region, which was embodied in hosting the Cairo peace summit.
Sisi reviewed the results of the communications and intensive efforts undertaken by Egypt to restore calm and reach a ceasefire to protect civilians and provide urgent humanitarian aid to the people of the war-devastated Gaza Strip, the spokesman said.
The international community should exert maximum efforts to stop this escalation, with the aim of allowing room for diplomatic efforts, to push towards addressing the root causes of the Palestinian issue and restoring the path of the peace process, he concluded.
